Rowleys announces Head of Tax succession as part of long-term growth plans

L-R: Clare Clifford and Mark Hook

Rowleys has announced that Clare Clifford will become Head of Tax with effect from 1 February 2026, as part of the firm’s long-term succession planning and continued investment in its people and services.

Clare’s appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to developing internal talent and ensuring continuity for clients as Rowleys continues to grow. She will take on responsibility for leading the Tax team, supporting clients across compliance, advisory and planning services.

As part of the transition, Mark Hook will remain with Rowleys as a Partner and continue to play a key role within the firm, until his retirement in March 2028. Mark will continue to look after some of his existing client relationships while working closely with Clare to support the ongoing development of the tax team. He we will also retain responsibility for will writing services and his probate-licensed role, ensuring these specialist areas continue to be delivered with the same level of expertise and care.

This phased approach allows for a smooth and well-supported transition, giving clients reassurance that established client relationships services will be carefully managed and, where appropriate, gradually transitioned over time.

This appointment also reflects the continued growth of Rowleys’ tax team. The firm has recently welcomed Matt Allen as Corporate Tax & OMB Director to the team, strengthening its capacity and capability, particularly in tax advisory. Further growth and development are planned as Rowleys continues to invest in its people and expand its advisory offering to support clients with increasingly complex tax matters.

Clare Clifford said:

“I am excited about the future, our plans to continue to grow the team and very grateful for Marks ongoing and future support with this.

“I am looking forward to taking on the role of Head of Tax and grateful for the support and trust the firm has placed in me over the last 18 months since joining Rowleys as Tax Partner. Continuing to work alongside Mark during this next phase will be invaluable. His experience, knowledge and support will help ensure continuity for clients as we further grow, develop and strengthen the team.”

Tom Copson, Managing Partner at Rowleys, added:

“This appointment is a clear example of our long-term approach to succession planning. Clare’s progression recognises her capability and leadership, while Mark’s continued involvement ensures stability, depth of expertise and excellent client care. Mark is a highly regarded tax specialist in our region, with strong involvement in regulators and governing bodies, and his experience continues to be invaluable.

“With new people joining the firm, growing advisory capability and recent award shortlists, it is an exciting time for Rowleys and a positive step for both our team and our clients.”
